Moi, je suis l'homme parfait

Here's a lovely photo of me doing what I do most often, listening to music while I blog. Hell, that's what I am doing right now sans the music.

My wife read my blog last night and even made a comment or two... I think. The sideways pic in my Profile isn't her favorite one so I offer the faithful this picture instead.

I was chatting with a fellow blogger and we got to talking about perfect people. Do any of you know what constitutes a perfect person? Is anyone perfect afterall and if not why does the word exist?

I have a belief that those appearing "perfect" are most likely quite screwed up somehow, but just choose to bottle up their emotions. They have a great game face on so to speak. My brother used to joke about fashioning himself as the perfect man and it cracked me up because part of me thinks he believed it and another part knew he was being a complete smart ass. Are we perfect based on others moral codes, religious beliefs, societal norms, etc.? Really now... is anything or anyone truly perfect?

What would you say it is that you do here?

Yo, no more Appreciation Weeks for a while. Ladies Appreciation Week and People Appreciation Week have passed. It is nice to do something like that because it gives my blog a theme. Something this wonderful blog of mine lacks. I guess that's not surprising considering my life lacks direction too.

I will be 32 in a couple months and the only skills I have are swimming, speaks French, typing, the ability to make some people laugh, and a Masters in AltTabing. This is me going against the grain. (I told myself I wouldn't blog about work, but it's on vague terms.) I get the feeling it's time for me to move on and shake either this desk job or all of them completely. Six years ago I told myself no more food service jobs. Now I feel like my ship has sailed as far as office jobs go. I love writing this blog and all, but I apparently I have too much time on my hands especially if I get excited about the number of comments on my blog. I am giving myself this entire year to try and figure out if I need to go back to school, start my own business, or just a general career path change. There's got to be a job out there for me that will challenge me and allow me to be my oddball self. Below are some jobs I thought would be perfect for me over the years.

*sport mascot: like the San Diego chicken or Mariner Moose
*voiceover work for tv or radio: cartoons or animal noises
*small business owner: restaurant or map/travel store
*guide: lead tours of France
*National Park Ranger: forestry days
*French teacher
*a John: no need to explain
*professional baseball player: after making all-star team when I was 13
*a model: naive young college days and yes I have a cheesy portfolio
*an actor: naive young college days, but I would be one dimensional like the tilted head guy in The O.C.
*talk show host
*self-made millionaire by creating cool gadgets sold only on late night tv
*work for Lego somehow

Update: new locker combo to memorize. 9-39-29. It's a rather easy one to commit to memory. Some dude at the gym freaked me out stating my current lock is easy to vandalize. That would suck if that happened because I would hate for anyone to find my porn stash and throwing stars, a.k.a. my crime fighting kit. I can't leave them at home so they travel with me. Yeah, the gym may be inappropriate, but it makes for some great conversation with my gym pals and gives me a larger amount of personal space.

Random acts of generosity

Sprizee and I were enjoying a little conversation when this customer/good samaritan on the left bought a cup of java for a complete stranger. The man wandered into a local coffee store and had asked a couple people to buy him a cup of coffee. The gracious customer on the left was kind enough to oblige. What a great selfless act and your deed didn't go unnoticed sir!

So here's today's topic. What good deed have you done that even amazed yourself? On the other hand, have you done something that left you wondering "damn that was cold of me."? Could be recent or could be from a while back. Just sharing stories here on People Appreciation Week.

I would like to go first, but sadly nothing jumps out at me. Yikes! (thinking harder now) Well this isn't me, however my wife gave a homeless man $10 last week. She found the bill on the ground at a work convention and couldn't locate the owner. She thought it would be best to give back by giving the ten spot to a homeless guy we pass everyday on the way to work. I have even seen this particular homeless man give his own money to another fellow homeless person so they could buy a can of pop. Come at me gang!

Why the long face?

In the spirit of appreciating people this week... I am no longer running for my life like I was last week. This week it's my goal to befriend as many people as possible and learn as much as I can about them. If you see me coming, don't run the other way. Take a moment to chat me up. I would love to learn more about folks I already know or complete strangers.

If I am to enjoy People Appreciation Week to its fullest then I need to learn how and why people tick. What makes someone happy? Why are certain days better than others? Is it a series of poorly timed events that ransack a perfectly good day? Does weather really influence your mood? Come at me with your thoughts on this manner. Maybe you had a great weekend, explain to me what made that weekend better than others. Did you see some friends you haven't seen in awhile or get out in the great outdoors? And will I ever stop asking questions?

Generally I'm a pretty happy go lucky person. Sure there are some serious pet peeves of mine, but I think overall I am fairly optimistic. I am quite realistic at the same time which can be off-putting for many people because they only want to hear a rosy version of what could or did happen. Let's learn more about ourselves, our co-workers, our friends, our blog buddies, and of course our families. Thanks in advance for sharing.

We all float on

Why do I love Seattle so much? This weekend the weather was gorgeous. Sunday the city was shrouded in fog all morning and afternoon. One of those absolutely perfect days where you just have to get out of the house. It's a day where you would feel guilty watching a movie or hanging out indoors, i.e. swimming at a gym. Zero whales or bald eagles seen at our neighborhood waterfront park where this picture of the ferry was snapped.

Since the weather was so nice I decided it would be a good idea to spend an hour or so indoors. I went for a swim early Sunday morning at the gym prior to our park visit. Didn't seem like there was anyone there, but what could I tell.. the lights were barely on. I changed into my suit and jumped in the vacant pool. It was a little odd without the lights on. A swim friend of mine, Katy, compared it to your roller skating days. I thought it reminded me more like a scene out of Gremlins or Cocoon. Think of your moonlight bowling, but imagine swimmers instead of hot bowlers. The dimmed lights did make it harder to see the multitudes of band-aids that gather on the pool bottom. I felt so comfortable with the low light level that I swam in my birthday suit. Needless to say no one wanted to share a lane with me. Damn shrinkage!

P.S. I know you all care about my computer problems of last week since I received numerous fan emails on the subject. My previously mentioned swim friend Katy has a friend that's a huge Apple supporter like myself. He shot me an email with steps to correct the problems. Everything is now fixed so kudos to Ryan for helping me get my blogging groove back on. This is a fitting human interest story for People Appreciation Week.
